More wartime revelations about the young Terence Conran, courtesy of “exact contemporary and friend” Roy Leverson.
Roy, now director at office furniture company Breslev & Partners, was sparked into nostalgia by Terence’s reminiscing (Diary, DW 10 February).
“We were at prep school together under the head mastership of the Rev Canon WR Mills – known to the boys as `Bug’ because you dared not call him `Worm’,” recalls Roy.
“Terence was the only day-boy at the school. He invited me home for Sunday lunch, and of course his mother’s cooking was far better than the usual school grub. His family were most democratic, for while the parents sat at the normal dining table, Terence, his sister and I sat at a children’s-sized table which was far more comfortable and enabled us to behave and converse as we pleased.”
