Shot in Glencoe, a short film has been created by Double Take Projections, marking the upcoming 300th anniversary of the 1715  Jacobite uprising.

It sees Scott’s On the Massacre of Glencoe projected onto beautifully shot mountains, hillsides and lakes, all under a starry blue night sky and includes locations such as Buachaille Etive Beag.

The final video is a time-lapse sequence which sees streams, stars and weather systems whizzing by as the poem is narrated in real time.

Over an hour was spnt in each location in sub-zero conditions and director of Double Take Projections Steven McConnachie says: “We projected over 3 weekends between December and January in very challenging conditions.”

It then toook several weeks to create the finished video as there was over a terabyte of footage to wade through.

The origin of the poem is the massacre of 38 members of the MacDonald clan in their own homes On 13 February 1692 by government soldiers. This incident rallied support across the Highlands for the Jacobite cause, leading in part to the 1715 uprising, which sought to put James Edward Stuart, son of James VII, on the throne.

McConnachie says: “We felt it was important to mark the Massacre of Glencoe and the part it played in the 1715 Jacobite uprising, particularly in this 300th anniversary year.

“I’ve always been interested in history but recognised the need to do something a bit different to get people’s attention and raise awareness of this chapter in Scotland’s history. Fortunately the technology and expertise we have available at Double Take Projections has allowed us to produce a video which will capture peoples’ imaginations.”
