More design awards for British groups

The awards season continues this week with more success at home and abroad for UK design consultancies.

The prestigious Industrie Forum Design competition for products in Hanover, Germany, has made awards to 359 out of the 1670 products submitted.

Successful designs include an asthma inhaler for German manufacturer Boehringer Ingelheim designed by Bristol consultancy Kinneir Dufort; a flatliner for Maxon Cellular System by London consultancy Tangerine; and a syringe device designed by Louis Della-Porter of Spark Design and Summit Medical.

The Eurobest Awards announced this week include three packaging design awards. Top laurel goes to Michael Peters Ltd, whose packaging for Italian cheese Torrigiano won one of only four Grand Prix awards made this year.

Blackburn’s picked up a Eurobest for The Glenrothes Malt Whisky, and Italian consultancy Maurizio Di Robilant & Associates also won a Eurobest for its Koh-I-Noor brushes and combs work.

Meanwhile, Lewis Moberly won the best packaging design award of European scheme Epica for its Dettling Kirschwasser bottle. The bottle has also won a Mobius award (DW 13 January) and seven other awards in 1994. Lewis Moberly was the only UK winner at Epica.

And Eva Jiricna Architects has won US magazine Interiors’ best retail design plaudit for the Joan & David shoe shop in Westport, Connecticut. Sir Norman Foster and Partners won best in institutional design for the Marine Simulation Centre in Rotterdam.
