PVC’s reputation based on man-made scientific facts

Regarding the recent feature Playing With Polymers by Miriam Cadji (DW 16 January), I did find it a bit disappointing in that the descriptions of the environmental aspects of PVC were somewhat dated.

Current opinion from independent sustainability experts considers that a large amount of the negative reputation for PVC has been based on some pretty dubious science.

As a material, PVC is probably no less sustainable than many of the alternatives that are used when it is discounted for ‘environmental reasons’.
