Betting shop window displays are changing after legislation permitting bookmakers to open up their frontages came into effect last Thursday. The changes enable work by Design House and Light & Coley to be implemented.
Ladbrokes revealed a ú75m retail concept by Design House last year (DW 29 July 1994), while Light & Coley’s point-of-sale campaign and new window frontage for Coral was unveiled in a Weybridge pilot shop (DW 13 January). William Hill, the UK’s third major betting chain, unveiled an in-house-designed refurbishment scheme in Leeds last July.
A Ladbrokes spokesman says: “The windows have been covered by free-standing point-of-sale units by Design House. We can now start to space them out, but it’s a gradual process.”
Light & Coley’s new-look Coral will convey a “building society or bank” feel, according to Coral marketing director Kelvin Stacey.
William Hill plans to “experiment with several different designs” before coming up with one concept, says a spokesman.
