Radiant Studios has created the identity for the relaunch of Qatar channel Al Jazeera Children’s Channel, as well as a pre-school counterpart, airing today.
Radiant, formed last year by former English & Pockett managing director Richard Wallman and creative director Michael Berthon, was asked to take on the project by Mahmoud Bouneb, general manager of the Al Jazeera Children’s Channel, who had seen Radiant’s work for the Uefa Champions League.
The Al Jazeera Children’s Channel had decided to split into two distinct audiences, one for pre-school and the other for children up to 14 years.
As a result, Radiant was briefed to create suitable identities for both, as well as a comprehensive screen graphics package covering deliverables including screen print, Web graphics, the creation of an Arabic typeface and updating an existing Arabic typeface.
The concept for Al Jazeera Children’s Channel is based on dynamism and energy, with visuals emanating from the logo, according to Wallman.
The identity for the pre-school channel Baraem, which means bud in Arabic, is inspired by traditional arabesque shapes. These form the basis for a series of animated characters and their environment.
