The Business Software Alliance has doubled its reward for information leading to successful legal action against companies caught using illegal software, from £2500 up to £5000.
In an ongoing campaign to tackle software piracy in the design industry, the BSA is urging company directors who are unsure about their software to contact the organisation for advice. A free guide to software management is also available.
Business software piracy rates in the UK are estimated at 29 per cent, though an independent survey found nearly a third of people questioned believe they would not be caught if they used unlicensed software.
BSA campaign relations manager Mike Newton says: “Using unlicensed software is no more acceptable than stealing.
“They need to know they will be caught and heavily penalised if they persist in ignoring copyright laws that exist to protect the software developer.”
