A signage system has been created for the London School of Economics’ library, which is moving to a temporary home in the patent vaults on Chancery Lane.
“The design grew out of the way-finding strategy,” for the building, which is a “rabbit warren”, says Elizabeth Burney-Jones. She worked on the signage with freelance designer Bruce Niveson and Rivermeade Signs designer Nick Hawksworth.
The building has been split into five zones using primary colours for each area. The bold graphics in Oranda typeface and rounded arrows are intended to create “happy-looking signs” for the old, dingy vaults, says Hawksworth.
Foster and Partners is currently revamping the LSE’s library building in Portugal Street.
