Holmes Wood signs for art school

Holmes Wood has been appointed to design a wayfinding, signage and graphic scheme for Wimbledon School of Art.

The scheme will reach across the art and design organisation’s campus, taking in its three schools: The School of Foundation Studies, The School of Theatre and The School of Fine Art. The project will also include the development of the school’s identity in a graphic treatment that will work across internal and external signs.

In 2003, the school opened an Eric Parry Architects-designed postgraduate centre that includes studios, exhibition areas and social spaces. These buildings were installed without any signage, says Holmes Wood director Alex Wood. ‘[The school] is a lovely architectural space, but there are no rules for signage. The signs will be for both students and external visitors,’ says Wood.

Wayfinding work is commencing this week and it is anticipated that the system will be in place for the school’s graduate show at the end of June. The school also hosts the Jerwood Drawing Prize.
