Transport for London has unveiled three pilot locations for pedestrian wayfinding system Legible London, designed by Applied Information Group, and named the designers who are to implement them.
As well as being responsible for the overall system design of Legible London, AIG will oversee a pilot in Bloomsbury and Covent Garden. Atkins will develop the South Bank and Bankside pilot, and City ID and partner Faber Maunsell will be responsible for the Richmond and Twickenham pilot.
AIG was appointed in 2004 to look at pedestrian wayfinding in the capital and propose a blueprint for a new system.
It came up with a system of display maps and information boards which ‘talk’ to pedestrians who call the phone number printed on the signs. The Legible London prototype was trialled on Bond Street in 2007.
