V&A Dundee seeks website designers for £80,000 project

The V&A Museum of Design, Dundee is seeking a studio to design its new website as part of a £80,000 contract.

The project has been put out to tender on Public Contracts Scotland by Design Dundee Ltd, a company set up in 2010 to support the development and delivery of V&A Dundee.

£80,000 project to develop new website

The company is seeking a digital design consultancy to “design, develop and support” a website for the new museum, which will sit alongside other V&A museums on vam.ac.uk.

The V&A Dundee project was founded in 2010, by five partners including Dundee City Council, the University of Dundee, Abertay University, Scottish Enterprise and the V&A. The museum will open this year and expects to bring in 350,000 visitors annually.

It will be the fourth V&A museum worldwide, sitting alongside the main V&A in South Kensington, London, V&A Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green, London, and the V&A in Shenzhen, China, which opened last year.

UX design experience required

Studios interested in the website design tender are asked to have experience using coding language Ruby and online platform Ruby on Rails, alongside expertise in user-centred design, user experience (UX) and digital brand development.

The chosen team will work with the V&A’s internal digital teams in Dundee and London to create a new website in time for the opening of the museum in the second half of 2018.

Contract will run for over a year

The contract for the project will run from 19 February 2018 until 31 March 2019. The chosen studio’s contract may then be renewed for future work, according to the tender.

Interested studios should head here for full details on the website design tender. Applications close at 12pm on 26 January 2018.

The tender follows a call for designers in 2015 to create the museum’s permanent exhibition spaces, the Scottish Design Galleries. Architectural practice ZMMA was appointed to the job in 2016.
