Elements of defunct London interiors show IDI will be resurrected at Interbuild, the construction industry show to be held at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre on 19-24 November.
Apicella Associates will devise an identity and colour for the new Interiors section of Interbuild.
But Interbuild organiser Andry Montgomery, which also organised IDI, stresses that only parts of IDI which related to architectural interiors will be included at Interbuild.
“It is not a rebirth of IDI because that was for more domestic interiors,” states Andry Montgomery managing director Chris Newton. “Interbuild caters more for the specifier-led market.”
Interbuild also plans a second new element, Tectonics, aimed at top architects and designers. Spectrum co-founder David Field is working with Andry Montgomery on proposals for Tectonics. Field is also part of an advisory body for Tectonics, which includes Royal Institute of British Architects president Frank Duffy and architect Ian Ritchie.
Tectonics will “look at the future of advanced building and materials”, according to Newton.
“We will reflect the whole process of building and make Interbuild a comprehensive show, with Tectonics and Interiors as exhibitions within themselves under the Interbuild umbrella,” says Newton.
IDI was scrapped last year, two weeks after the unveiling of Reed Exhibition Companies’ rival annual show Contract Interiors, which took IDI’s planned dates at London’s Olympia this year. Reed plans to run Workplace in London at the same time as Interbuild.
Meanwhile, EMAP is planning an exhibition of architectural product suppliers in association with the Business Design Centre.
