Following Jasper Conran’s departure as head of the Conran empire, Stephen Briars has now been appointed as creative director of Conran Retail and Brand Holdings.

Jasper Conran stood down as director of Conran Holdings in September 2015 the day after Sir Terence Conran gave an interview in which he spoke about how he thought Jasper was doing at the helm of the business.

The appointment of Briars – who is from a retail background – puts him in charge of The Conran Shop.

Leading all creative functions

He is leading all creative functions of The Conran Shop globally, which includes brand experience touchpoints such as on and off-line aesthetics, visual merchandising, graphics, PR, events, social media and store design.

He will work on both driving creative elements and strengthening brand concepts, according to The Conran Shop.

Prior to this role he was European creative director at Urban Outfitters where he oversaw the roll out of a new content and store experience concept for on and off-line.

“We see an untapped potential”

Briars says: “Over the past 40 years the brand has developed an undeniable reputation to curate the world’s best design products. Through our established showrooms and our global online business we see an untapped potential to be as relevant to future generations as we are to our loyal fan-base today.”

He also says that the products will be presented in an “exciting and informative way”, which fits into The Conran Shop’s ambitious strategy to be “the best destination lifestyle retailer in the world”.

A “strong eclectic curation” is promised across all channels with categories including furniture, lighting, gifts, personal accessories, art, music and books, with established and emerging designers and artists represented.
